Botanova is a small Swedish company founded by us in 1989. One of the reasons for us to start was a competition, in fact the first Swedish Championships in Potted plants. We won two out of three possible classes. Many thanks to that Sarracenia and Zamia. This made a popular magazine interested in us and made an "at home with the experts"-story. Thereafter we got many letters form people all over Sweden who wanted to buy cuttings...........
After a couple of years we had over 500 customers and business was still growing. But things run a bit out of hand and we had to close down our email account due to spam attacks. Family, house and work had to be taken care of too. Now we are trying to return to the market slowly.
Hoya has been our trademark almost from the start. But this happened to be due to an "accident". We tried to order some carnivorous plants from Liddles in Australia but they told us that they had stopped selling those but had lots of Hoyas instead. So why not try those huge red ones only seen in books so far? Our first 20 speceis arrived in 1989 and the rest is history. Geraniums, Carnivorous plants, Tillandsia and Hibiscus are other plants among many that has been sold through us.
Beside the successful mailorder business we also did run open weekends at the university Botanical Garden. Many Drosera capensis has made the day for young children visiting with their parents. During a period the Cayman "Valfrida" was the highlight in the tropical room. Especially during the special exhibition weekends where herptiles (snakes, lizards and frogs) or parrots where main attractions. Besides that the 2000+ plants always made the visit interesting.
